Letter to Mr. Code [manuscript], 1940 December 7.

Benét is unable to be of assistance in finding a publisher for Code's poetry. He notes that "Publishers will always...look askance at poetry because it seldom does sell well" and comments that his first book was brought out with the aid of a brother-in-law and by "browbeating" a publisher he knew. His royalties are still small and he is "always one jump ahead of the sheriff."
